A Message from the Board Chair

On behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you for placing your trust in our hospital. It is both an honor and a responsibility we take very seriously.

Our Board is deeply committed to ensuring that our hospital remains a strong, compassionate, and dependable resource for the community we serve. We view our role not simply as governance, but as stewardship—listening to our neighbors, supporting our care teams, and planning thoughtfully for the future.

In partnership with hospital leadership, the Board works to support and collaborate with the Hospital Administrator in advancing our mission and strengthening the organization. We are dedicated to safeguarding the hospital’s financial stability, so care remains accessible and sustainable for all who rely on us. We also provide strategic direction and establish long-term goals that reflect the evolving needs of our community.

Election of Officers

Candidates for Board of Director of the hospital shall be citizens of the United States, voters of the district of which they are a candidate, and who have resided within the state for one (1) year next preceding the election and who are at least thirty years of age.

There are six (6) districts within the hospital district and one (1) director from each district serves a six (6) year term.

Election filing dates are announced by Missouri Ethics Commission and dates are published each year in local newspapers for the district whose term is expiring.

During election filing, candidates are required to file in person at the Hospital Administrative office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Office closing dates are announced in the public notice each year. For district information, candidates need to come to SMH Administrative office to pick up a Board packet.

Meetings are open to the public and are held on the last Tuesday of every month. Call Administration for further information at 573-729-6626.
Additionally, the Board ensures compliance with healthcare laws and regulations to protect patient safety, privacy, and trust. We advocate for our patients and community at every level and continually evaluate the hospital’s value and impact on the health and well-being of those we serve.

We are proud to serve this community and remain committed to thoughtful leadership, transparency, and accountability. Above all, we promise to place patients, families, and the well-being of our community at the center of every decision we make.
